The stainless steel double-boiler pot was unique, but ultimately the cooker was loud and splattery, and the rice stuck to the bottom. Although the Instant Pot is a masterful multipurpose cooker, its rice just isn’t as good as what you can get from the Cuckoo CRP-G1015F. In our tests, short-grain and medium-grain white rice cooked wickedly fast—in just 29 minutes, faster than on the quick-cook setting of any of the other machines we tested. And a dedicated rice cooker can dramatically improve flavor and texture, producing rice that’s aromatic, nutty, and earthen, with a broad depth of flavor and a pleasing chew. But the Hamilton Beach has an insulated lid to hold in steam and keep food warm for hours. It makes the best rice, not overcooked in the least and with a great crust on the bottom the touches the pan, thanks to its nonstick interior surface. Both machines use pressure, but one advantage of this newer model is that it has a removable inner lid for easier cleaning. The inner pan is made of durable, non-stick black fluorine-coated and this evenly conducts and retains heat in every grain of rice and this makes after-meal cleanup quick and easy. Unlike our top pick, the Cuckoo does not have a removable lid, making the starchy gunk that builds up over use much harder to clean off.
